This spring, the City of Smithtown Senior Center will celebrate 35 years of providing nutritious meals to seniors. To commemorate this, Senior Center members, volunteers and staff will commemorate the anniversary with a pre-lunch soirée on April 26 at 11 a.m. Members who RSVP will enjoy light refreshments and celebrations before sitting down for a hearty lunch.
Staff are currently preparing to celebrate 35 years of providing nutritious meals to local seniors. The Smithtown Senior Center will also be honoring caterers. Zans Kosher Deli in Lake Grove For 20 years of contributions to the program.
“They say nothing brings people together like good food. This is especially true for our nutrition programs. For nearly 45 years, our senior center has helped foster friendships and help the wisest generation maintain independence at home longer.” We are a gathering place where you can find the support, resources, and tools you need to help you. None of this would be possible without our amazing staff and volunteers who treat our members like family. This program is invaluable to our community and we look forward to celebrating this milestone with the Center community in April,” said Smithtown Supervisor Edward R. Wehrheim. said.
Smithtown Aging would like to acknowledge the 45 years it has operated since the center’s opening, fostering a positive environment of friendship, support and independence. The main focus of this day’s festivities is to celebrate his 35th anniversary of a nutrition program that enriches the lives of seniors and facilitates social interaction, which is important to promote health and well-being. Recognition will also be given to the outstanding staff and dedicated volunteers who ensure the growth and effectiveness of the nutrition program at the center.

We would like to celebrate these milestones together and take the time to recognize all the good work that has been done over the years. It is a great pleasure to look back. nutrition program known as Group lunch program (Weekday lunch) We currently serve approximately 175 seniors each week. In addition to essential nutritional benefits, this service provides residents with a special habitat to enjoy conversation, friendship, and laughter while eating nutritious meals each day. Residents age 60 and older are invited to participate in this social gathering.
Lunch is served Monday through Friday at 11:45 a.m. Registration for this program is first-come, first-served beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Another amenity available to center members is grab-and-go lunches served to approximately 125 seniors. Typically, these residents are either participating in other activities offered by the center during lunch, or each meal served at Smithtown Senior Center is carefully selected and is currently in the 60+ age group. Either you’re simply dropping by with the confidence that it consists of one-third of your recommended dietary allowance. .
Additionally, Smithtown Senior Center is celebrating its 25th year of existence. home delivery meals, Also called Meals on wheels. The program currently serves approximately 60 to 70 eligible seniors who are disabled, frail, or have limited support. 65 dedicated volunteers are delivering meals to these residents. In addition to serving food, we also serve as a comforting, consistent and friendly face every day.
Additional information regarding nutrition programs: People with self-reported incomes at or above 185% of the federal poverty level are encouraged to donate an amount equal to the actual cost of the meal. The recommended meal donation amount is $2.25. Contributions made will be kept confidential. Funding for this program is provided by the U.S. Administration for Community Living, the New York State Department on Aging, the Suffolk County Department on Aging, and the City of Smithtown. How to join Smithtown Senior Center: Smithtown residents age 60 and older can participate by filling out a simple application on-site (no fee required) along with proof of residency, such as a driver’s license. Membership cards and welcome packets will be provided, as well as a tour of the facility by a senior center club leader. Your welcome packet includes an up-to-date calendar of activities, classes, and events, as well as a brochure of services and amenities available only to members.
The Eugene Cannataro Senior Center offers a wide range of activities, clubs, and programs designed to improve the quality of life for residents age 60 and older. The center offers a full schedule of arts, fitness and wellness programs every day. Members participate in a variety of clubs, from gardening, quilting, and book clubs to one of seven social clubs that feature outings to the casino and theater, luncheons, parties, and community advocacy and volunteer opportunities. you can choose to. In addition to a wealth of fun programs, Smithtown Aging Services offers a variety of in-home maintenance and repair services.
The Senior Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (July and August hours: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.). Lunch is provided daily. Transportation is also available for members.
