Something went ‘weird’ after Cadbury changed its mini egg recipe

Melissa Simonson (@realmelissasimo) is back. This time, we are investigating an alleged change to Cadbury’s Mini Egg recipe.

The creator, who has amassed more than 500,000 likes on TikTok, calls out shady practices by food companies, including shrinkflation affecting both Betty Crocker cake mix and Old Spice. Creating content. And as the Easter season draws to a close, she’s turning her attention to Cadbury’s mini egg bars, which she says are “a beloved product that people will be stocking up on”.

However, on the Hersheyland website, this chocolate bar has an average rating of 2 stars based on 245 individual reviews. One reviewer, Cryptic, gave the candy one star, adding, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

Meanwhile, Maggie gave the bar a 2-star rating. In her review, she wrote, “The bag I bought on Amazon tasted so bad that I thought it might have been contaminated with chemicals. It jeopardizes the goodwill that has been passed down over the years and future purchases.”

Fellow user LMisa called the chocolate bar a one-star “disappointment,” and Melissa pointed out that reviews vary somewhat in response from the company: appropriate department. Thank you for sharing. ”

In addition to this, she notes that the recipe has changed, leaving many reviewers wondering if the food is no longer gluten-free and is safe for consumption by people with peanut allergies or celiac disease. did. However, rather than Hershey directly addressing these concerns, she appears to have responded that she will contact all customers via email.

In one review response, the company clarified: “While we would be happy to provide the information, we will not provide it on this site because the responses will remain on the Internet and will not be updated if the information changes.”

In other words, as Melissa points out, Hershey’s point is, “They might change the recipe at some point, and we don’t know if the marketers will update the website fast enough to survive the lawsuit.” Thing.

Overall, Melissa seems perplexed by this conundrum, stating: This is a product that you can win without getting involved. So why do we keep destroying what we have won?”

Hershey did not immediately respond to a request for comment via the Daily Dot’s contact form.

The internet is chaotic, but we’ll break it down for you in one email a day. Sign up here for the Daily Dot’s web_crawlr newsletter to get the best (and worst) of the internet delivered straight to your inbox.
