Sunday night was a “thriller” night at Doublet’s show. Zombie-like models strode down the runway in Frankenstein-like tailoring, bathed in the brightest possible light, hoodies with ironic slogans and versions of Michael Jackson’s iconic leather jacket. Appeared. Deborah Nadoleman Landis.
The show is both genuinely frightening — an army green hoodie with a flared hood lined with blood-red fluff reminiscent of Stranger Things’ Demogorgon monster — and hilarious. -A trench coat with two large bolts sticking out of the collar, or a jumbo hoodie that declares a nap instead of a gap.
We applaud Doublet’s designer Masayuki Ino for his rich fashion storytelling, from the venue, the pharmacy school, to the invitations, to the therapeutic massage flyer that foreshadows the exhibition’s grand finale. Models wiped with scary make-up and contact lenses from dead eyes.Among the health interventions depicted on clothing and accessories, naps, massage therapy, yoga sessions and protein powder leave you feeling refreshed, smiling and renewed. It appeared vividly in the finale.
Yuki Masau showcases the season’s collection, from boxy tailoring with prominent topstitching that opens the display to artfully sagging tweed jackets and cool leather pants sprinkled where an acupuncturist would twist a needle. I have managed to incorporate many of the trends into my concept.
These are fun pieces for the street style set, and while they may not live up to the promise of “I’ll help you get rid of that painful pain” in your massage flyer invitation, they do lift your mood with some wry humor. I might let you.
