Fever is the body’s natural defense mechanism that helps kill pathogens that enter the body and cause illness, but high fevers may not be very helpful. High fever is not only uncomfortable, but it can be a difficult and life-threatening experience.
Harvard Medical School defines hyperthermia as a body temperature between 102.4 and 105.8 F (39.1 and 41 C). According to Cancer Research UK, such high fevers that last for a long time can lead to heart disease, neurological problems, and even seizures in children.
While conventional medicines can help reduce fever and other related symptoms, natural approaches like Ayurvedic treatments can strengthen the body from within and naturally lower body temperature. Speaking to the OnlyMyHealth team, Dr. Ganesh Chaudhary, Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery, PHC, Darbhanga, Biharrecommended some Ayurvedic remedies to reduce high fever safely and naturally.
Ayurvedic treatment for high fever
In Ayurveda, high fever is often seen as a result of an imbalance in the body’s doshas, especially Pitta and Kapha. Dr. Chaudhary says, “Fever is a sign of a worsening Pitta dosha, indicating excess heat and inflammation in the body. Keeping Pitta in balance and supporting the body’s natural cooling mechanisms is key to fever management. ”, he explained.
coriander and cumin tea
His first recommendation is the coriander and cumin tea. “Coriander and cumin seeds have cooling effects that reduce fever and inflammation,” he said. “Drinking this tea regularly will increase your body’s detoxification and strengthen your health from within.”
Ginger and tulsi decoction
Dr. Chaudhary recommends, “The anti-inflammatory properties of ginger and the immune-boosting properties of tulsi combine to make this decoction effective in lowering fevers and supporting immune health,” both of which can help reduce fevers. This is important when managing viruses and fighting off pathogens such as viruses and bacteria.
neem leaf paste
“Neem is known for its cooling and antibacterial properties. Applying a paste of neem leaves on the forehead reduces fever and reduces discomfort,” Dr Chaudhary explained.
