Join us on the first Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. for a walking meditation in the woods at Hickory Hill Park (at the Conklin Lane entrance off North Dodge Street), followed by coffee/tea and conversation at Press Coffee.
What is walking meditation?
In our daily life, we usually walk to get somewhere (sometimes in a hurry), for exercise, or for other purposes. When we practice walking meditation, we have no purpose or direction in space or time. We don’t fill the silence with conversation or fill our heads with worries about the past or the future. The purpose of walking meditation is to be fully present with our body and the present moment. We smile as we walk because we are walking free of the demands of the world and the burdens placed on our own shoulders. Thich Nhat Hanh says: “When you walk, arrive at each step. That is walking meditation. There is nothing else.”
About Winding Path Sangha
The Winding Road Sangha is a community of lay practitioners following the Plum Village tradition of Vietnamese Buddhist teacher and peacemaker Thich Nhat Hanh. Peace is the way.
We know that the path can be winding and difficult at times, and to support peace in ourselves and the world, our Sangha gathers weekly to meditate and practice Thich Nhat. We listen to Hahn’s teachings, share our mindfulness practices, and discover together how we live our lives. Be fully engaged in the present moment at home, at work, and in our communities. We also meet regularly for men’s and women’s groups, and sometimes for book discussions and special events.
Everyone is welcome to join us, regardless of your beliefs or experience with meditation, Buddhism, or mindfulness practices.
