When Melinda Fletcher met her rock-climbing husband in Oregon, little did she know how ready she was to uproot from Santa Cruz, where they had lived for 20 years, and start a life with him in Tahoe. Although the move happened in the middle of the pandemic in March 2020, she says looking back, it was the best thing she ever did.
Fletcher’s personal health journey began when she was 20 years old. Driven by anxiety from her childhood trauma, her anxiety returned while in college and she was on a quest to balance her anxiety and find a lifestyle that worked for her.
“I studied Chinese medicine, yoga, massage, meditation, nutrition, Ayurveda and work. At first for my own healing, and then I realized there was a solution,” says Fletcher. said. “My personal journey has since evolved into a deep love and dedication to the work of healing and helping guide others on their healing journeys.”
That journey resulted in Fletcher attending an Ayurvedic school for four years, as well as spending a year at one of the most comprehensive Panchakarma centers in the United States.
Ayurvedic medicine is one of the world’s oldest medical systems that relies on a natural and holistic approach to mental and physical health. Or, as Fletcher says, “Ayurveda is self-knowledge for self-healing.”
Fletcher’s approach is holistic. She explains that it works on an individual’s emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. It’s a life coach meets health coach.
“I look at the person’s unique qualities: how they move in the world, how they feel, what their emotional tendencies are, what their body shape is, What desires they have, the relationships they grew up with – all these parts help us understand who they are as unique human beings.”
From there she looks at what balances or de-balances their systems, what supports their optimal well-being and body systems. These include digestion, energy, sleep, vitality, and pain.
“When someone comes to me, we dig deep to understand that person’s unique life. What is their natural state of being? What in life has made them worse? , work, relationships, environment, food, stress, trauma, what’s going wrong, what’s not optimal, etc.,” Fletcher added.
She further added that she supports them through the choices they make every day. This process works to fine-tune your instrument to live your best life. She provides routine recommendations, including wake-up, exercise, and sleep times, to help people feel more in control of themselves.
Each practice is unique and designed to detox and rejuvenate the body, and when you wake up each morning with a clear purpose, you will be full of energy and vitality. This solution empowers individuals to take control of their lives and helps them feel better in body, mind and soul.
Fletcher adds, “One of the best things about Ayurveda is that it helps regulate the nervous system. By quieting the mind and calming the body, nature’s intelligence clears the way for relaxation, allowing us to allows us to reconnect with our inner power and consciousness. Self-care is the same as self-love. When we truly tune in and take care of ourselves, we cultivate a realm of awareness and love.”
For those who need to journey deeper, Sattva Wellness also offers Panchakarma. According to Fletcher, this is her specialty.
“This is a place where all things Ayurveda come together, including body work and having people prepare meals for several days.” [visits]. A deep detoxification and rejuvenation process that removes all buildup and deeply resets you. Every day, we dig deeper into the system for two hours of personalized treatment. You return home feeling refreshed. ”
Although this type of practice isn’t suited for any particular type of illness, Fletcher says most of her patients have already started other types of treatment, and the path to finding her is usually You can get it through yoga.
And while Ayurveda is not yet a household health term, Fletcher says the practice is similar to where acupuncture used to be. Previously no one knew what it was, but now it is common everywhere.
That commonality was already present when she arrived in South Lake Tahoe, where she practiced Ayurveda at Elevated Wellness before going on maternity leave.
After her son was born, she took some time off to become a mother, but when her son was one year old, she felt her love calling and wanted to meet customers again. But she also wanted to see if it would fit into the new normal, she thought, and started considering her space.
“My hairdresser is next door, and one day I noticed the space next to hers,” Fletcher said. “I looked in the window and called the space, saw it two days later, signed the contract a week later, and opened a month after that.”
She opened the doors of Sattva Wellness on July 1, 2023. In the meantime, she said she’s balancing it with being a giveaway, treating old clients as well as new ones, starting a podcast, and looking into hosting free workshops and webinars. And an active mom.
“The mountains are my home and the people are my community. Being a mother and raising my son here, I just want to study and give back to the community what I have learned.”
