Skin care is a slippery slope. You start looking for a specific treatment and suddenly it all starts. The next thing you know, you’re looking for the best face oil for oily skin or wondering how to start your tretinoin journey. Next thing you know, you’ll be researching the benefits of hydrogel masks and wrinkle patches.

Wrinkle patch – Just the name makes it sound complicated. Everyone seems to think so, given the growing interest across the industry. But what are they? please think about it. Targets acne patches and treats fine lines. From tiny microdart patches for smile lines to sticky sheet masks for your forehead and neck, wrinkle patches come in all forms to target the signs of aging. Compared to other anti-aging devices on the market, such as the plethora of high-tech infrared masks and microcurrent devices that are probably sitting on your shelves, the Wrinkle Patch is simple and easy to use.

But, of course, that begs the question. Are wrinkle patches too good to be true? Let’s find out.

A woman washing her face in the mirror.

What is a wrinkle patch?

The past decade has seen a shift in the way we think about aging. These days, growing older is seen as something to be celebrated rather than feared. A few years ago, people declared 30 to be the new girlfriend, 20. Now I’m 40 years old (and older). And the beauty industry reflects this.

Beauty brands created for women are increasingly being founded by women. This industry restructuring has led to major advances in diversity, product development, clean beauty, and attitudes toward aging. The products on our shelves aren’t trying to “fix” us. Rather, they are rituals and tools that help us define, on our own terms, what it means to age gracefully.

Many of my anti-aging habits are more focused on rituals and health benefits than actual appearance. For example, using gua sha can give you a sculpting and smoothing effect, but the reason I work with it consistently is because of its meditation and lymphatic drainage benefits. When sheet masks emerged as a self-care feature, I became so addicted to them because of how relaxing they are. Simply applying a sheet mask to your skin feels like you’ve hit reset. How well they work is a bonus.

Now that wrinkle patches are becoming more and more popular, it’s natural to wonder if they’ll become as ubiquitous as before, or if they’ll fade away. After trying several variations, I was convinced. But to really understand whether wrinkle patches work and whether you should add them to your daily routine, I spoke to some experts.

  • Dr. Ellen Turner, ABPS, AAAM, Board Certified Dermatologist
  • Gabriel Requena, Founder of Wrinkles Schminkles
  • Helen Morrison, President of Morrison Consulting and Morrison Family Marketing, Content Strategist, Brand Builder, Content Creator, 5th Generation Female Owner, and the Face of Frownies

Is there anything that really works for wrinkles?

To properly deal with wrinkles, you must first understand their causes. “Premature aging of the skin is primarily caused by external factors,” points out Dr. Turner. She cites sun, blue light exposure, and pollution, along with “factors such as stress, health, and nutrition.”

She continues: “Fine lines and wrinkles occur as a direct result of collagen and elastin being broken down and these factors slowing or reducing the production of new collagen and elastin.”

Although there are collagen creams and supplements that can help restore skin’s elasticity, preventive skin care is your best bet to help minimize the signs of aging before they appear.

According to Dr. Turner, “Preventive skin care for anti-aging includes the daily use of sunscreen, antioxidants (such as vitamin C), peptides, growth factors, retinol, and moisturizers, as well as gentle cleansing, healthy These include healthy lifestyle choices and regular skin checks.” dermatologist. ”

How effective is the patch on wrinkles?

“Wrinkle patches are designed to smooth and hydrate the skin and typically target specific areas that are prone to wrinkles, such as the forehead, around the eyes, and between the eyebrows,” says Dr. Turner.

“These patches work by delivering active ingredients like hyaluronic acid and peptides directly to the skin’s surface, temporarily plumping and tightening the skin. They also form a barrier that locks in moisture, reducing fine lines and wrinkles. can improve the appearance of

Wrinkle patch myth

Wrinkle patches may work, but like any new skin care trend, there are misconceptions about how they work and what they can do.

“One of the common misconceptions about wrinkle patches is that they can permanently eliminate wrinkles,” says Dr. Turner. “These patches temporarily improve the appearance of wrinkles by moisturizing and smoothing the skin, but do not provide long-term or permanent results.”

Tips to make your wrinkle patch more effective

Wrinkle patches alone won’t permanently eliminate fine lines, but they can be used in conjunction with skin care to prolong and enhance the results, recommends Dr. Turner.

“Some people may believe that wrinkle patches are only effective when used alone without any additional skin care products. However, for optimal results, cleansing, moisturizing, and serums are essential.” It is often recommended to incorporate wrinkle patches into a comprehensive skin care routine that includes the use of other anti-aging products such as and creams.

Things to consider before using wrinkle patches

Dr. Turner recommends evaluating your skin type and concerns to decide whether to use a wrinkle patch. “Consider your skin type and underlying skin condition. Wrinkle patches are generally safe for most skin types, but if you have sensitive skin or certain dermatological issues, you may want to check your skin before use. It is important to consult a doctor.”

She also recommends considering how they fit into your routine. “Wrinkle patches can complement other anti-aging products and practices, such as sunscreens, serums, and retinoids. If you’re already passionate about skin care and are looking for a more targeted treatment, wrinkle patches are a good option. “It could be,” Dr. Turner asserts.

Comparison of silicone patch and adhesive patch

To better understand the differences, we spoke to experts at two of the most popular wrinkle patch brands: Wrinkles Schminkles and Frownies.

“Not all wrinkle patches are the same and work the same way,” says Gabriel Requena, founder of the cult-favorite Wrinkles Schminkles. Wrinkles Schminkles are silicone anti-wrinkle patches, while Frownies are adhesive forehead casts that target forehead wrinkles. The former targets the skin and the latter targets the muscles.

How does wrinkle patch work?

Requena: Wrinkles Schminkles is the pioneer of reusable 100% medical grade silicone patches. Medical grade silicone is a skin-safe material that is clinically proven to promote hydration and collagen production, improving the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

We use the manufacturing process used to make silicone tape for scars. The effectiveness of this product is equally good in treating lines and wrinkles, and it works effectively in three important ways:

  • compression. Our patches keep the skin taut, preventing wrinkles and wrinkles from forming.
  • Circulation. Our patches help regulate blood flow to skin care surfaces and stimulate collagen.
  • hydration. Our patches absorb moisture and form an occlusion between the skin and the patch, ensuring hydration to the skin care surface.

You’ll notice a visible difference the moment you remove the patch, but it only becomes noticeable if you use (and reuse) it regularly.

morrison: Flourny targets facial muscles. Frownies contain a water-activated adhesive that dries and hardens to form a splint over your facial muscles. Fraunie essentially creates a cast on your forehead that keeps your muscles smooth and relaxed.

With consistent use over time, Frownies can retrain and relax your facial muscles, helping you become more aware of your own facial quirks and how often you furrow your eyebrows unconsciously. If you continue to use Flournies and increase your facial awareness, you will be able to stop getting wrinkles and feeling too much tension on your face.

Wrinkle patches are not a quick fix. Temporary effects may be immediate, but true change takes time and consistent use. It takes him 12 weeks for the skin to undergo complete cell turnover, and it takes about 12 weeks for you to see any real muscle changes.

Signs you should start using wrinkle patches

Morrison: If you have tension between your eyebrows, wrinkle them, squint your eyes, or raise your eyebrows often, you should start wearing furrowies. If you have fine lines and don’t want them to deepen, you can use Flourney.

Requena: When you start to see visible signs of aging due to the natural aging process, sun exposure, sleeping on your side, etc., you’re a great candidate to use patches to improve your lines. We’ve created patches for the most common target areas: chest, eyes, forehead, neck, mouth, and hands.

“You’ll see a visible difference the moment you remove a patch, but that difference will only be amplified if you use (and reuse) it regularly,” says Requena.

“Frownies specifically works on areas where wrinkles are caused by muscle contraction. Frownies are very effective for wrinkles caused by muscle tension and contraction,” says Morrison.
