- Four committees appointed to establish Ayurvedic Medicines and Products Regulatory Council
Health Minister Ramesh Pathirana said in Parliament on Monday that the regulations under the Ayurvedic Act, tabled in Parliament on March 19, will help facilitate scientific testing of indigenous medicines across the world. He said he was deaf.
The Minister said that the Ayurveda Act is set to be amended for the first time in 62 years and that indigenous medicine and Ayurveda are in high demand and are recognized as a major foreign exchange earning sector in Sri Lanka.
The Minister said this while participating in the discussion on amendments to Ayurveda laws.
The Minister also stated that under the enactment of Section 77 of the Ayurveda Act No. 31 of 1961 and the establishment of the Ayurvedic Medicines and Products Regulatory Council, there are regulations regarding local pharmaceutical production, stores, medical devices, local cosmetics and medicines. said.Storage and transportation of pharmaceuticals, import and export, herb cultivation related to the pharmaceutical industry, etc.
Four committees will be appointed to form the Ayurvedic Medicines and Products Regulatory Council. Along with this, the Ayurveda Technical Committee, Ayurveda Factory and Store Evaluation Committee, Ayurveda Products and Market Research Committee, and Pharmaceutical Supply and Herbal Evaluation Officer Committee will be appointed.
Millions of people in this country have been cured by Ayurvedic treatment. When the coronavirus crisis broke out, the management of the disease was praised around the world. Ayurvedic medicines also helped with that.
In some areas, contact lenses are in short supply. With this in mind, we have undertaken the necessary procurement activities and taken steps to obtain relevant lenses within Sri Lanka.
The government is also taking steps to supply hospitals with medicines that are in short supply. There are various programs in place regarding children’s nutrition. Therefore, it is expected that the malnutrition problem will be significantly reduced this year.

Non-communicable diseases are widespread throughout the country. More cancer cases are being reported. More attention should be paid to providing the necessary treatment to alleviate their pain. This country is lagging behind in addressing the health conditions of older people. We have taken steps to provide the most effective treatment to our people in accordance with the regulations received from the Ministry of Health.
