Intermittent fasting is all the rage right now (hello, Jennifer Aniston is following it too), but it’s been around for years. Most people fast for about 16 hours a night and only eat within eight hours.
Yes, she thinks it’s really good for your health.
According to Gillian, intermittent fasting is “immune and anti-aging, helping you stay young for longer.”
She actually thinks it’s a very good way to stay healthy and strong. “Intermittent fasting is very effective at keeping you at your most energized for as long as possible,” she says.
But yeah, Jillian doesn’t think fasting will help you lose weight.
“That’s actually not good for weight loss. It’s not true,” she says. “The only thing that affects weight loss is calories in and calories out.”
Jillian went on to clarify that you still need to watch your calories while on an intermittent fasting diet. “When you consume more energy than your body needs in a day, that energy ends up being stored as fat,” she says. “If you want to lose weight, it doesn’t really matter when you burn calories. All that matters is how many calories you take in and how many you burn.”
What’s her best advice about intermittent fasting? “I recommend eating every 3 to 4 hours. That way you automatically have a minimum of 12 hours and a maximum of 16 hours of overnight fasting. You get a fasting period and that’s it.”
