Enjoy the diverse benefits of hemp seeds and hemp oil in delicious dishes specially prepared by Hempyful.

While the ubiquitous hemp seed continues to grow in popularity for its various health benefits (Why India Should Go Hemp Seeds), aside from the cannabis high (Why hemp seeds won’t get you high), the question often arises as to how to incorporate it into your daily routine. Luckily, the founder of hemp seed brand Hemptyful has come up with some everyday recipes that are healthy and have no strings attached.
Pune-based brand Hempyful continues to grab attention with its unique offerings as part of its mission to help farmers, the environment and improve consumer health. Recently, the startup was selected for Gruhas Gusto, a six-month accelerator program by Gruhas, Jubilant Bhartia Family Office, Sabre Ventures (DLF Family Office), and Anthill Ventures, helping it scale at a fast pace.

Incorporating hemp hearts and hemp oil into traditional Indian cuisine is a great way to boost the nutritional value of hemp hearts. Hemp hearts can be used as a garnish in curries, stuffed into parathas, mixed into lassi, or sprinkled on traditional upma or poha. Below are our top 7 recipes to get you started.

1. Hemp heart chutney: Revanth Kaza, CEO and Co-founder of Hemptyful, says that this special chutney he discovered in the Himalayas was what started his journey as an entrepreneur. Traditionally made with raw hemp seeds, hemp seed chutney contains more protein and omegas. This special chutney is the perfect pick-me-up for anyone looking for a fresh twist on a traditional South Indian delicacy.

material:

  • 1/2 cup Hemptiful hemp hearts
  • 1/2 cup grated coconut
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • 1 piece of ginger
  • 2 tablespoons hemp oil
  • A pinch of salt
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Water as needed

Instructions:

  1. Toast the hemp hearts in a dry frying pan until lightly golden brown.
  2. Mix roasted hemp hearts, grated coconut, green chillies, ginger and salt with little water to make a smooth paste.
  3. Add the lemon juice and mix well.
  4. Mix in hemp oil.
  5. Serve with dosa, idli or as a side dish with rice.

2. Hemp Hearts Lighter: For biryani and pulao lovers who also want to keep their cholesterol in check, this raita is the perfect healthy combination that is low in saturated fat and provides an extra helping of protein.

material:

  • 2 cups yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons of Hemptyful Hemp Hearts
  • 1 cucumber, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • A pinch of salt
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Whisk the yogurt until smooth.
  2. Add chopped cucumber, tomato, and hemp hearts to the yogurt.
  3. Mix in the cumin powder and salt.
  4. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  5. Serve chilled as a side dish.

3. Hemp Heart Ladoo: Healthy laddoos are the new trend and adding our Hemp Hearts is the best thing about laddoos. A traditional Himalayan delicacy, this low carb laddoos is perfect for those who want to maintain their health without sacrificing the fun of celebrations.

material:

  • 1 cup Hemptyful Hemp Hearts
  • 1/2 cup grated jaggery
  • 1/4 cup coconut flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder

Instructions:

  1. Dry roast the hemp hearts and coconut flakes separately until golden brown.
  2. Mix roasted hemp hearts, coconut, grated jaggery and cardamom powder.
  3. Shape the mixture into small ladoos.
  4. Store in an airtight container and enjoy as a healthy snack.

4. Hemp Heart Yogurt: Tired of traditional dips that are high in sugar, saturated fat and preservatives? Kaustubh Mahadik, COO and co-founder of Hemptyful, has come up with a homemade dip that’s perfect for nachos. It’s a great alternative for those who love dips and sauces but struggle with the highly processed products sold in retail stores.

material:

  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons of Hemptyful Hemp Hearts
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh mint, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh coriander (chopped)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Combine yogurt, minced garlic, chopped mint and chopped coriander in a bowl.
  2. Add hemp hearts, salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Stir well to combine.
  4. Enjoy as a curry dip or raita.

5. Hemp heart and avocado salad: While it’s still up for debate whether cooking with avocado can be considered Indian food, mixing it with hemp hearts and Himalayan oils gives it a more Indian feel. If you’re a fan of Indo-Mexican food, try this protein- and omega-3-rich salad.

material:

  • 1 avocado, diced
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1/2 cucumber, diced
  • 1/4 cup Hemptiful hemp hearts
  • 1 tablespoon of Hemptyful cold-pressed hemp oil
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, add diced avocado, tomato, and cucumber.
  2. Add the hemp hearts and mix gently.
  3. Drizzle with hemp oil and a little lemon juice.
  4. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  6. Please consume immediately.

6. Hemp Heart Smoothie: This smoothie is a textbook breakfast favorite for anyone who wants something quick and yet super healthy. It takes just two minutes of work and gives a unique, delicious mouthfeel thanks to Hemp Hearts.

material:

  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup spinach
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 2 tablespoons of Hemptyful Hemp Hearts
  • 1 teaspoon vegan honey/date paste (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Combine banana, spinach, Greek yogurt, almond milk, hemp hearts, and honey in a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth.
  3. Pour into a glass and serve immediately.

7. Hemp Hearts and Mango Salsa: For all you experimental home cooks, this combination of India’s favourite fruits and uniquely Indian superfoods is a must try. This mouthwatering recipe will truly impress your friends, family and guests with your culinary skills.

material:

  • 1 ripe mango, diced
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1/4 red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small jalapeño, seeds removed and finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons of Hemptyful Hemp Hearts
  • 1 tablespoon of Hemptyful cold-pressed hemp oil
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • A pinch of salt
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine diced mango, red bell pepper, red onion, and jalapeño.
  2. Add the hemp hearts and mix gently.
  3. Drizzle with hemp oil and lime juice.
  4. Add salt to taste.
