WHEELING — The Ogden Newspaper Wellness Weekend presented by WVU Medicine is an event that organizers hope the whole family will enjoy, but the whole family will love the 30-foot Ogden Newspaper Half Marathon Classic. You may not be ready to endure the rigors of the contest. Trek miles along the foothills trails around Wheeling.

Still, they want to get outside and move. That’s why his 5K run and walk, an event sponsored by WVU Medicine Children’s, has become an integral part of the weekend and continues to grow in popularity.

Both 5K events follow the overall trend of the Ogden Newspapers Wellness Weekend hosted by WVU Medicine Children’s, said race director Joe Lovell, special events coordinator for Ogden Newsletters sites throughout the Ohio Valley. , said the number of registrations is higher than this time last year.

One reason for that, he said, is that 5K races are more appealing to a wider range of runners.

“You can’t just wake up and run a half marathon,” he said. “About a month in advance, he can start training for a 5K or just walk. You can’t do that with a half marathon. It takes him about six months to start training.”

Mr Lovell said the introduction of the Corporate Cup also contributed to the increase in attendance by 5,000 people. Those participating from their respective businesses thought the 5K race was a great way to get active.

The course layout for the 5K Run and Walk presented by WVU Medicine Children’s is a little different this year given the structure typically found throughout the course. This year’s race will begin at the same starting point on his 14th Street and will take him up Jacob Street to his 16th Street.

Runners and walkers then cross the Main Street Bridge and continue down Main Street until they reach 27th Street. After trotting down 27th Street, he turns onto Chaplin Street, from where he continues to 33rd Street, where he joins the Heritage Trail. They follow the trail until it turns onto Water Street and ends between WesBanco Arena and the Intermodal Center.

This course is fun for runners and walkers of all ages and experience levels. And that’s one of the reasons he signed on as a sponsor with WVU Medicine Children’s.

“The 5K is truly family-friendly,” said Kathryn Bay, marketing and communications manager for WVU Medicine Children’s. “WVU Medicine Children’s mission is to create healthier futures for children, and that certainly includes families and making sure that children and families can spend time together.

“So we couldn’t think of anything better than something that promotes health and wellness and, of course, community togetherness,” she added.

Prize money will be awarded in both the run and walk open divisions, with first place prizes of $75, second place $50, and third place $40 for both men and women. Participants will receive a lace towel, bottle of water, fresh fruit, and he will also receive a meal voucher. Participants who pre-register will be guaranteed a shirt and all 5K participants will receive a race medal.

“Ogden Newspaper Wellness Weekend, hosted by WVU Medicine, is an event that people of all fitness levels should enjoy,” said Perry Nardo, general manager of the Intelligencer and Wheeling News Register. Masu. “The 5K Walk and Run hosted by WVU Medicine Children’s is a great opportunity for recreational runners and walkers to get their blood flowing by participating in a weekend experience. And this year, WVU Medicine Children’s We couldn’t be happier to have you join us in organizing such a great event.”
