Working out in the cold weather isn’t easy. When the temperatures drop, motivation and enthusiasm disappears for many of us, and our equipment ends up sitting unused in the corner (though it’s only after my gym trainer has been staring at me for days that I finally feel inspired to take it for a walk).
But what if the answer was realistic, bite-sized workouts that you can do at home? We’re talking quick workouts that don’t take up too much of your time but still get your body moving and maintaining momentum. Now, perhaps not surprisingly, we have tons of such quick workouts on our site, but we’ve also added a brand new 5-minute Bar Pilates Leg Burner from Laura Henshaw and the Kic team.
Why is this workout great? As you’ve read, it’s a quick 5-minute investment of your time that will get your heart rate up, make you feel good inside, and can be done at home, saving you money and time spent driving back and forth.
There are a lot of checkmarks, and also, this is low-intensity Pilates, which frankly is often easier for people to tackle in the cooler months.
Laura Henshaw talks about the wonders of Pilates
“Pilates is all the rage and I’m on board with it. Pilates makes me feel so strong and powerful. But I also feel pressured to live up to the ‘Pilates girl’ aesthetic that’s all over social media. I can get caught up in the reformer hype (don’t get me wrong, it’s a really good exercise), but the reality is, at $30 a class, it’s a pretty expensive lifestyle to maintain. If you’re a Pilates girl on a budget, trust me, you can fulfill that desire at home too. Honestly, a five-minute barre Pilates workout with Kika is more than enough to get you sweating,” explains Laura.
After all, doing Pilates at home is super accessible and affordable, without the winter chill. Just get out of bed and strap on some ankle weights for added resistance, or use a slider to recreate the Reformer vibe. It’s a sure-fire way to burn some calories, without any equipment at all.
We love The Burn. Let’s go.
