This BLT salad comes with the classic
The BLT sandwich is even better with a salad with creamy basil dressing and crispy sourdough toast. Arrange lettuce, tomato wedges, bacon, avocado slices, and corn kernels on a platter. Add a hard-boiled egg for a heartier meal. Choose the most vibrant heirloom tomatoes and sprinkle lightly with salt to bring out the maximum flavor. Make dressings for your favorite salad variations all summer long.

Shrimp rolls with tangy coleslaw
If you don’t want to spend a lot on lobster meat, make shrimp rolls. Shrimp in a traditional top-loading hot dog roll with tangy coleslaw makes a fun fourth party dish. Shrimp can also be baked, boiled, or grilled (buy them pre-cooked if you’re in a hurry). Here’s how to cook them in a skillet with chili powder. If you buy pre-cooked shrimp, mix them with a little coleslaw dressing. This easy coleslaw combines green cabbage, carrots, semi-sour pickles (a nice mix) and a simple mayonnaise mix. Toast the buns, stuff them with coleslaw, and top with a handful of shrimp. If you like it spicy, garnish with a small bowl of popular Asian seasonings: chili crisp, sriracha, or harissa. Great for a little spoonful. Neither you nor your wallet will miss out on the lobster.

Grilled fish sandwich with plenty of tartar sauce
This flavorful Grilled Fishwich can be prepared in just minutes and is the perfect dish for a backyard summer party. With a steak-like texture, swordfish sears better on the grill than most fish. Spoon a generous amount of herb oil over the top for the last few minutes to keep it juicy inside. Layer the flavorful filet onto a spastic (sub) roll, add shredded cabbage and spoon a generous amount of homemade tartar sauce on top. Serve with potato chips, of course. Don’t be distracted by the main course, so settle into a lounge chair and enjoy the sun with your guests.

Buttery vanilla bread with fresh blueberries
Some bakers claim that blueberries make a delicious summer treat. Fold a generous cup of tiny silvery blueberries into a buttery batter mixed with vanilla extract and seeds scraped from a vanilla bean. Bake in a loaf pan; a medium-heavy, straight-sided pan works best. If using a heavier pan, bake for 15 to 20 minutes longer. The cake is done when the crust is firm and set (the heavier the pan, the longer it will bake; the heat of the oven will have time to penetrate the pan and the batter will have time to soak in). Take it to a friend’s backyard or a summer party on Independence Day.
