In 1994, the Winter Park Health Foundation began its mission to invest in facilities and programs that benefit the health of residents of Winter Park, Eatonville, and Maitland. The foundation, which has raised more than $131 million in grants, is celebrating its 30th anniversary with the Well Together Grant Awards Challenge, which is distributing its $300,000 to five local nonprofits. .

The initiative is an open call for proposals from 501(c)(3) organizations that can focus on one or all of the foundation’s three target communities. Proposals should address solutions for youth mental health, diabetes and prediabetes, and heart health.

According to the American Diabetes Association’s 2023 report, approximately 11.6% of Florida’s adult population has diabetes, and an estimated 107,700 adults are diagnosed with diabetes each year. According to Mental Health America’s 2023 report, 13.2% of Florida youth experienced at least one major depressive episode in the previous year, and 67% of them did not receive treatment.

The challenge is a partnership with the Victory Cup Initiative, a Winter Park-based organization dedicated to improving storytelling skills across the nonprofit community and fostering collaboration and partnership between nonprofits and the business community. Created in partnership.

An evaluation committee will identify five finalist organizations, each of which will receive a $50,000 grant for their proposal. The finalist will also receive Victory Cup storytelling training, which she will use to pitch her idea in a contest for the rest of the foundation’s $50,000 commitment. The pitch will be heard at an event to be held at the Health and Welfare Center on October 11th.

“The Winter Park Health Foundation is proud of the level of interest local nonprofits have shown in the Well Together Grant Award Challenge,” said Patti Maddox, president and CEO of the Winter Park Health Foundation. I’m very excited about it.” “We are hearing similar voices from long-time partners and new entrant organizations with a passion to address his three critical health issues in his three impactful communities.”

The deadline to submit applications is May 15th, and all applicants are eligible to apply for a 501 currently serving or ready to serve in Eatonville, Maitland, and/or Winter Park. c)(3) Must be a nonprofit organization. The five finalists will be selected in mid-July and must participate in the Victory Cup Initiative storytelling training scheduled for late July to September.
