Vitamin theft
Two thieves stole $2,861 worth of vitamins from a Whole Foods Market in Sonoma on Thursday, Sonoma Police Sergeant Scott McKinnon said, marking the second vitamin theft in the last month.
Police believe the female thief placed the vitamins in a shopping cart and covered them with toilet paper and a blanket while the male thief acted as a “lookout,” McKinnon said. The female thief then went into the women’s restroom, where she stuffed the vitamins into a large white purse.
The thieves went through the register and left, spending only eight minutes in the store total, McKinnon said. A Whole Foods manager learned of the stolen items the next day and contacted Sonoma police.
Police believe the thief is the same person who stole $2,100 worth of vitamins on March 21. McKinnon said officers are collecting surveillance footage from the store to help identify the thief.
Drunk driving on Junipero Serra Drive
Sonoma police arrested a man on suspicion of drunk driving after crashing into several parked vehicles in the 19000 block of Junipero Serra Drive just after midnight Thursday, McKinnon said.
McKinnon said when officers encountered the man, he was sitting on the front porch of a home next to a white Ford Ranger and admitted to driving the vehicle after drinking alcohol earlier in the evening, crashing into a parked vehicle along Junipero Serra.
Police investigated the man for drunk driving, and a breathalyzer test showed his blood alcohol content was 0.15 percent, nearly twice the legal limit. The investigation also revealed he did not have a valid driver’s license, McKinnon said.
Sonoma police arrested him on suspicion of DUI, misdemeanor DUI, driving without a license and hit-and-run, McKinnon said.
A broken mirror is left in the bed of a truck
McKinnon said the driver’s side mirror of a 2004 Ford F-150 was damaged sometime between Friday and Sunday near the intersection of France Street and Broadway.
The owner of the vehicle reported the vandalism to Sonoma police on Sunday after finding the mirror in the bed of the truck. The owner estimates the damage caused by the vandalism at $500, McKinnon said.
