GREENSBURG – It’s time to think about the 2024 Decatur County Fair. The dates are July 11th to 17th. We would like to introduce some of the contents of the open class exhibition. A booklet with all details is available at the extension office.
Some general rules are: Open classes are limited to all legal and current residents of Decatur County. The exhibit has never been exhibited before. Photos must be 5″ x 7″ and have a matte finish. Must be 8″ x 10″ or smaller and taken within the past 12 months. All food preservation and cookie exhibits must have a recipe card with the recipe and details.
I will introduce some craft classes and continue with other classes next time.
Craft
(Only one entry per person per class)
- Class 1 – Door decoration/garlands
- Class 2 – Christmas – Ornaments
- Class 3 – Christmas – Other
- Class 4 – Jigsaw Puzzle – Actual Puzzle – Seal with Tape or Glue
- Class 5 – I’m Crafty – Create crafts from inexpensive items purchased at Dollar General or other craft stores
- Class 6 – Recycled Crafts – New items from reused items
- Class 7 – Other Crafts – Any crafts that do not fit into any other class.

- Class 2 – Small items less than 12 inches
- Class 3 – Large Items – 13 to 20 inches tall
- Class 4 – Children aged 8-12 Created by children
- Class 5 – Young Adults, Ages 13-17 – Items created by teenagers.

We will hold more classes next time. These will keep you busy for a while.

spam casserole
(It’s a family favorite.)
1 12 oz can of Spam, cut into cubes
T. 2 celery flakes
T. Onion flakes 2 pieces
1 can tomato soup
salt and pepper
1 7oz package.Macaroni – cook and drain
1 can of pork and bean juice
Mix all ingredients and bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
paradise salad
1 20 oz can of strawberry pie filling
1 20 oz can of crushed pineapple
1 14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk
2c. mini marshmallows
1/2c.chopped pecan nuts
1 12 oz carton of whipped topping
Mix all ingredients together in a 9 x 13 inch pot and refrigerate at least 1 hour before serving. The latter can also be frozen for use. You can also use other flavors of pie filling. Makes 8-10 servings.
very easy banana pudding
2 3 oz instant vanilla pudding packs
3c. Milk
1 14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk
8 oz. carton of whipped topping
vanilla wafer
5-6 bananas
Mix pudding, milk and condensed milk and add whipped topping. Layer with vanilla wafers, bananas, and pudding mixture. Repeat layers. Top with more whipped topping and wafer crumbs.
potato chip cookies
2 cups margarine
1c. of sugar
3 1/2 c. flour
1 T.Vanilla
2c. crushed potato chips
Mix all ingredients together and drop by teaspoonfuls onto cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
